Teagan Unterschute recently completed the Recreation North Training Program. Teagan lives in Whitehorse, YT and earned a Certificate in Northern Recreation Leadership in October 2020. Teagan shared a bit about herself.
My name is Teagan Unterschute. I’m a single mother of two beautiful children, and I’m from Carmacks, Yukon. I currently work with the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon. I am a proud Northern Tutchone woman. This is my first time in a recreation coordinator role. I am a self-taught coordinator. Recreation is what I am good at and it is what I plan to make as a second career for me in my young life.
I liked how in the Recreation North learning events the work was well played out and simple to understand. The challenging part was to understand some of the recreation situations that I have not yet experienced in the workforce.
I plan to use some of the tactics and planning that the training has taught me, once I’m back in the workforce for the community of Whitehorse.
Teagan’s words of wisdom:
* Keep at it, the work is very easy to understand, and there is lots of support if you ever feel like it is too hard. You got this!
* Write down your schedule in your phone and planner, also designate when you will be working on each assignment, so you don’t fall behind.
*There are assignments each week, but don’t worry it’s very easy and you have multiple days during the week to finish the assignment.
